Child & Family
We offer services for a variety of organisations including:
“Thanks to the help and support we have received from Changing Minds…we don’t just have the inner strength to continue, but the techniques to use to address issues in a more effective manner. As a result, our home life is a much calmer and happier place for us and our children to be.”
Bespoke assessments for children, young people, and families experiencing social or psychological difficulties.
Our assessments include a formulation (clear understanding) of the current difficulties, comment on any risk presented, and recommendations for further (therapeutic) intervention and management of risk.
Assessments focused upon a range of needs including: cognitive difficulties, executive functioning, attachment difficulties, developmental trauma, specific areas of risk, and social communication difficulties. Please contact us to discuss further.
Clear evidence-informed guidance focusing on building a strong parent-child relationship, methods for nurturing positive behaviours from your child, and techniques to improve their self-esteem and peer relationships.
Our bespoke interventions are tailored to match your child’s individual needs. We offer individual sessions, courses, and groups for parents and carers to help understanding in relation to your child’s behaviour, the impact of parenting on your own health, therapeutic parenting strategies, and how to support your child to develop their emotional, attentional, and social skills.
Advice from a psychologist to think about your child’s needs (including emotional, social, behavioural, or educational), to understand what might be influencing your child’s behaviour, and think about how best to support them.
This may include understanding your concerns and exploring what you are already doing, developing additional strategies to further support your child and undertaking a more detailed assessment or therapeutic intervention if required. We can also offer advice and support in engaging with your child’s school or educational provision.
Supporting parents through pregnancy, with ‘being a parent’, and the challenges that this can cause for your own mental health, family relationships, transitions, and changes. This can include support for mothers, fathers, or other family members.
Following a comprehensive psychological assessment of need, we can offer a range of ‘evidence based’ psychological interventions that include:
Bespoke packages of support for services working with children and young people in care, including foster care, residential care, and services supporting care-experienced young people.
This can include, for example, psychological consultation in relation to aspects of care and intervention planning, therapeutic parenting, safeguarding, and risk management; case consultation and the facilitation of multi-agency meetings with regard to complex cases; specialist training in attachment and trauma, and the impact of this on children and young people’s relationships, placement stability, and current behaviours; and support with the development of outcomes frameworks and the collation of outcomes data.
We can also provide consultation and strategic support for senior management on developing a psychologically informed framework of care (drawing from attachment/trauma theories) and service delivery.
Psychological assessment and therapeutic intervention for adopted children, their parents, and carers informed by a number of therapeutic approaches such as therapeutic parenting (parenting with PACE), Theraplay® , Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dyadic Development Psychotherapy (DDP). This work for adopted children and their families can be funded through the Adoption Support Fund.
Training and consultation for staff on child development and mental health, and targeted consultations with staff to support them in their work with individuals and specific groups of young people.
We also offer workshops for children and parents in relation to (for example) understanding emotions and mental health, relationships, bullying, and coping with exam pressure. We offer complex case formulation and strategic work with senior managers in developing a whole-school approach to improving emotional wellbeing, promoting attainment, and developing trauma and attachment-aware schools.
Strategic support for organisations working with clients or situations involving complex trauma responses and the development of ‘trauma aware’ and trauma-responsive organisations.
This may include advice in relation to responding to traumatic incidents, strategic responses to individual and organisational impact of trauma, and the development and implementation of a trauma-informed framework of care.
Specialist psychological consultation and clinical supervision for individuals, groups, and organisations who work with children, young people, and families with complex needs.
This collaborative process aims to enhance strategic planning, service delivery and clinical practice through promoting psychological understanding at individual, team, and organisational levels.
